Membership categories
Becoming an individual member of AFWS depends on your qualifications and experience.
AFWS student membership
Open to those on a food and beverage service related qualification (S/NVQ level first year minimum)
£25 inc VAT per annum
Full Membership – MAFWS*
Open to applicants who can demonstrate knowledge and skills to S/NVQ Level 2 and who have experience in a supervisory or management role, with a professional qualification (eg I.O.H.).
£70 inc VAT per annum
Fellowship – FAFWS**
Open to experienced service professionals with 10 year’s experience or to holders of the Court of Master Sommeliers’ advanced certificate and/or the Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s Diploma
£75 inc VAT per annum
Retiree Membership
Open to experienced service professionals with at least 20 years experience who have now retired from the industry.
£35 inc VAT per annum
* Use of initials after name given after satisfying AFWS experience criteria.
** Fellow and FAFW is bestowed or by invitation only but they still pay their full membership fee.
Establishment membership
Individual hotels, restaurants, contract catering outlets, pubs, cafes, and bars may join as Establishment members. Membership demonstrates your businesses commitment to service skills, training and customer service.
Turnover under £3m: £200 plus VAT per unit, per annum*
Turnover over £3m: £400 plus VAT per unit, per annum*
Entire Group rates – volume discounts available by negotiation, please contact the Academy office.
* These rates are exclusive of VAT which will be added at the current rate and includes three free full memberships (per unit, terms and conditions apply) for nominated individuals providing they work at the establishment member’s unit.
Food Service Management Business:
Per trading division (up to 100 units): £1000 *
Per trading division (100 + units): £5000*
* These rates are exclusive of VAT which will be added at the current rate and includes two nominated contacts per unit with whom the AFWS will correspond.
Academy Centres of Training Excellence (ACE): Establishment Membership
Individual staffing agencies, hotels, restaurants, contract catering outlets, pubs, cafes and bars may join as ACE Establishment Members if they can satisfy a high degree of front-of-house training commitment and satisfy the AFWS requirements.
£1750 plus VAT per annum
AFWS UK National College Network
AFWS has created a national network of colleges across the UK. Members of the network will receive:
• Local advice to employers and their staff on training in food, wine, bar service, meetings and events
• Access to AFWS training packs
• Support and guidance for tutorials
• Assessment services provided for employers to help their staff gain qualifications
• Invitation to AFWS activities such as seminars, workshops, tastings and master classes, both for students and teachers
• Publicity and promotion by AFWS of the courses, services and support being provided by member colleges
• Opportunities to meet and network with local employers in your area
• Subscription to AFWS e-newsletter
• Opportunity to take part in Academy competitions
• Accredited membership fee: £50 plus VAT, per annum
