Senses, Service & Skills – An Introduction to Sommellerie

Following the successful introduction of our Professional Connoisseur Series, we shall be holding our Introduction to Sommellerie course across UK, starting in January 2009.

 

A DAY LONG OPPORTUNITY TO UPSKILL STAFF IN THE AREAS OF WINE SERVICE AND FOOD & WINE MATCHING

As part of our Professional Connoisseur series we are pleased to announce a day long tutorial on wine service, product knowledge and food & wine matching.

The day begins with Senses, Service & Skills – an introduction to Sommellerie.
This is a half day, beginner’s guide to the basics of Sommellerie (wine waiting). Delegates will learn all the essential basics about wine, the major varietals, wine service and winemaking. Plus, importantly, they will learn what is involved in a sommelier’s day.
This module includes:
• What is a sommelier?
• Wine Service and what this involves
• Profile of a Sommelier and a usual day
• The basics of wine
• Outline of major grape varietals
• The process of winemaking
• Basics of glassware and handling

After a light lunch we then move on to Tutored tasting offered ny the Sherry Institute of Spain featuring a complete range of Sherries frawn from all the major importers.  This second half of the day gives delegates an opportunity to put into practice the skills they’ve learnt from the morning and is a great opportunity to gain knowledge about the Sherries of Spain.

Monday 7th Spetember 2009 - Hotel Du Vin, Winchester, Hampshire

Monday 14th September 2009 - Kendal College, Cumbria

Tuesday 16th September 2009 - Calcot Manor, Tetbury, Gloucestershire

Delegates can book to attend either the morning or afternoon sessions or for the full day. Prices are as follows:

AM session - 10am to 1pm: £25 AFW member / £50 Non member

PM session - 2pm to 4pm: £15 AFW member / £30 Non member

All Day - 10am to 4pm: £35 AFW member / £70 Non member
