“For me, customer care is all about being made to feel the most important/special person in the restaurant and every member of staff is passionate and really committed to doing his/her utmost to provide the best service at all times. It is ‘seamless service’ where everyone delivers consistent good service, promptly, courteously and with intelligence and enthusiasm.”

The Academy of Food and Wine Service runs a number of events throughout the year including competitions, industry dinners and masterclasses. The purpose of these events is for attendees to network with friends and peers in the industry but also to gain product knowledge from the various sponsors. Our events also help to achieve the AFWS’ mission statement to raise the profile of front-of-house service as a career choice.

Forthcoming Events For The AFWS
National Waiters Day is the brainchild of Fred Sirieix and is designed to celebrate all front of house staff – whether a waiter in a fine dining restaurant like Galvin at Windows or Rhubard in Edinburgh; a dub dub in TGI Fridays; a shaker in Ed’s Easy Diner; a mixologist in Salvatore’s cocktail bar; or a barista in Benugo.
National Waiters Day is taking place on 23rd June 2013.
This will be a day to celebrate all front of house staff and inspire people about careers in the Hospitality industry.
The day aims to change the perception of Front of House and Service as an unskilled job working long hours to one of a job that offers good skills, lead to a rewarding career with good progression routes and amazing rewards.
It will be a day of celebration of the excellence, dedication, hard work and discipline of all 2.5 million working in the Hospitality industry in the UK.
The day will demonstrate the values of the profession with a range of activities and events – be part of it!
