Following a tense Regional Final at five-star The Langham Hotel in London, the top eight finalists have been chosen in this year’s Gold Service Scholarship competition.

Whittled down from 24 of the country’s best front of house stars, the finalists will now compete in the National Final in February at The Connaught Hotel in London.

The finalists were chosen after a round of challenging tasks, including customer service, cocktail making and an interview. The challenges not only tested the finalists’ ability to perform such tasks to perfection under pressure but also tested the competitors’ social skills and presentation.

Now in its fourth year, The Gold Service Scholarship is an annual competition for young, front of house professionals working in the hospitality industry. The winner will receive a bespoke prize package of mentoring opportunities, travel and placements from a group of the most senior service professionals in the country.

Edward Griffiths, Chairman of the Judges panel and Trustee of The Gold Service Scholarship, said: “The standard of this year’s competition is extremely high and the Regional Final really showcased the talent and tenacity of the competitors. Our top eight represent the best of the best in front of house service and all have, without a doubt, a bright future in the industry.”

Jennifer Santner, Assistant Restaurant Manager, Sky Garden, one of this year’s finalists, said: “This has been a fantastic competition to be a part of and I am really looking forward to finding out what the National Final has in store. I would love to win and have to opportunity to use this experience to develop my front-of-house career.”

This year’s National Finalists include:

  • Sophia Warland, RAF Odiham, Hampshire
  • Christoph Schrottenbaum, Dinner at Heston Blumenthal, London
