The Academy of Food and Wine Service, together with Champagne Piper-Heidsieck and Decanter.com, has launched the 2011 Amateur Sommelier of the Year competition. The competition, open to any amateur wine enthusiasts – not members of the trade – last year attracted over 100 entries. The winner will receive dinner for two at a top restaurant in London and a case of champagne. Two runners-up will receive a magnum of champagne. The winner of the competition will also be invited to the prestigious Sommeliers’ Dinner being held in London on 1 June 2011, when the winner of the UK Sommelier of the Year will be announced.
